in Berlin gegründete Band will auch Geschichte machen, denn schließlich
soll die lateinamerikanische Musik erneuert werden. Und das auf den
Spuren von Los de Abajo oder Panteón Rococó mit Surf-Ska
und elektrogeschockten Mariachi-Klängen.
LA
CALZADA DE LOS MUERTOS, named after the pathway of the dead in Teotihuacán
at the pyramids “Pirámide de la Luna” and “Pirámide
del Sol, are the three Mexicans
FERNANDO ( vocals/drums)
HECTOR (synthesizer/vocals) and
ISAAC (guitar/vocals).
La Calzada de los Muertos originate in Berlin in 2004 as the first
Ska/Punk/Rock band formed by Mexican immigrants in Europe where they
are accepted by a broad audience within no time.
The creative fusion of elements of New-Metal, HipHop, Ska, Latin,
Mexican Rock and Surf-Punk develops into an ironically powerful concept.
The standard rules of the established rock music are accompanied anarchistically
with lots of fun by fast beats, dangerous guitar solos, aggressive
singing, dramatic riffs and minimalist-pompous electrical Mariachis.
After less than a year they independently produce their first CD La
Muerte con Charango which includes the song Sigo Caminando recorded
with Dr. Schenka, the lead singer of Panteón Rococó.
In 2005 the band present themselves for the first time in Mexico where
they catch the attention of the Mexican media. They are invited to
have a life gig on television, and are interviewed by various radio
stations and newspapers in different states whilst their concerts
are as explosive as in Germany. As a result, the record label Iguana
Records offers a distribution contract in Mexico.
In 2005 La Calzada de los Muertos do not only take their rebellious
musical show all around Germany, but after their return from Mexico
they continue their internationalisation with concerts in Belgium,
Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic and conclude the year with two
concerts in Istanbul, Turkey.
With their explosive show which is full of temperament, courage, heart
and rebellion they take any audience, irrespective of their nationality,
to the verge of fiesta, dance and pogo/slam whilst making them aware
of political issues and social problems like corruption, migration,
racism, social inequalities, revolution and zapatism.
Their music is the voice of the Latin Americans in Europe who left
the country of the Mayan and Aztec people for economical reasons,
but hope that one day they will return. It reflects today’s
social mobility which, together with the internet and the availability
of cheap flights, has not only created the opportunity to adopt modern
musical strategies of America and the old continent but also to confidently
follow own concepts.
